Contestant Eligibility
- An AWWS Senior Queen contestant must not be less than 17
years old and no older than 23 years old as of the date of the Saturday rodeo
performance. Junior contestants must be no less than 12 years old and no more
than 16 years old.
- May not be or have previously been, married, and/or pregnant,
and never convicted of a crime. If any of this should occur during the queen's
reign she will forfeit her title and all prizes and the 1st runner up will
fulfill the year.
- Must execute all consents and/or
waiver of
liability presented as conditions prior to competition.
- Live within Placer County, or surrounding counties, Nevada,
Yuba, Sutter, El dorado, Sacramento
- A contestant must agree to bide by all pageant rules, failure
to do so could result in disqualification.
Rules and Regulations
- Contestants must conduct themselves in a lady-like manner and
portray high moral standards. Contestants will not be permitted to drink
alcohol beverages, smoke, or use foul language at any time during the pageant
or rodeo week.
- Contestants must supply one head shot photo, 8x10, black and
white or color, color preferred, with western attire and a hat. The photos will
be used for judging, and publicity and will not be returned.
- Each contestant must summit a non-refundable entry fee of
$TBA.00 with her application. Make checks payable to AWWS. (Get a Sponsor).
- Contestants will present a 2-2 1/2 minute speech (1 1/2 - 2
min for jr's) the topic will be given at orientation. This is a
memorized speech! No aids, or props will be allowed, a
disqualification will result if anything but the contestant approaches the
microphone.
- Contestants must provide their own wardrobe and ONLY two
wardrobes will be allowed in the competition.
- Contestants are very encouraged to attend all functions given
by the Queen committee and should be dressed in western attire for these
events.
- Contestants shall sell Rodeo tickets, points will be awarded
by number of tickets sold. These are free points, girls, take advantage of it!
- All contestants shall attend at least one horsemanship
practice on the horse she will be competing on.
- The queen agrees to make a reasonable number of appearances
throughout the year, including community functions as well as local rodeos,
(Truckee, Salinas, Marysville, Livermore, Hayward, and Reno) and may be asked
to sign a contract.
Horsemanship
- There will be three patterns. A modified stock pattern, a
queen run and a flag run.
- Horsemanship outfit should consist of Wrangler brand jeans of
any color, a coordinating blouse, and appropriate accessories. (Hat, boots,
belt, etc.) Chaps are not permitted.
- A short interview will be conducted in the arena at the
completion of the stock pattern.
- Only competitors will be allowed to handle/ride horses
during any portion (including warm-ups) of the contest. Anyone else on the
horse will be cause for disqualification.
- There will be two practices held this time to ask any
questions, there will be well-respected horse people there to help with
pointers, please use this time. All contestants must attend at least one
practice, riding the horse they are to be using in the competition; this is for
everyone's safety. This is free time in the competition arena, take advantage
of it.
Judging procedures
Judges will score entries individually, they will be looking
for:
- Appearance, grooming of you and horse
- Personality
- Horsemanship
- Knowledge of rodeo, and of Auburn
- Pose and Speaking
The events that the judges will be evaluating the contestants
are:
- Horsemanship
- Private Interview
- Speech
- Impromptu Questions
- Modeling
