AWWS Kids Dummy Roping Rules

Roping begins during the Rodeo Kickoff Party on Wednesday, April 25, 2012
at Magnussen Dodge, 1901 Grass Valley Highway (Hwy 49), Auburn.

All entries must be made via an official Entry Form.

1. Divisions

A team of judges will review the contestant's skill level placing them in one of four divisions. Children will compete only against those in their division.

Division 1: Skill Level 1 (Beginner)
Division 2: Skill Level 2
Division 3: Skill Level 3
Division 4: Skill Level 4 (Advanced)

NOTE: Children who have previously roped off a horse in a competition cannot participate in this event.

2. Go Rounds

Each child will be given three (3) steers. Catches will be awarded points by the "type of catches" (see Points). At the end of all three (3) go-rounds, points will be added up to award prizes.

3. Legal Catches

In all divisions, there are only three (3) legal catches: around the horns, half head, and around the neck. No "fishing" is allowed. Fishing is defined as not immediately pulling the slack after the throw of the rope. The judge's decision will be final.

4. Illegal Catches

A catch when the rope is not in contact with any part of the steer head is considered an illegal catch (i.e. roping the entire steer).

5. Tie Breaker

If a tie occurs, prizes will be roped off on another three (3) steers.

6. Points

Horn catch - 3 points
Half-head catch - 2 points
Neck catch - 1 point
Miss - 0 point

7. Foul

Stepping over or on the barrier (foul) line before the try is completed will be considered a missed try. No points will be awarded.

8. Disqualification

A ropers name will be called three (3) times, if after three (3) calls the roper is not on the barrier line and ready to rope, he/she will be disqualified from the competition.

9. Winner

The roper who has earned the most points in their division will be awarded the buckle.
